Statues are so beautiful Age shall not wither them Photos frame milliseconds So the years can’t condemn Lamentably We will grow old And relentlessly We will grow cold But in my dream of Dorian Gray I staple blossom onto trees Carve my image deep in rock And drink from virgin arteries Born a perfect specimen Purity is only loaned Curse chromosomes as slowly flesh Learns to drip down from bone So inevitably We will grow old And regrettably We will grow cold But in my dream of Dorian Gray I staple blossom onto trees Carve my image deep in rock And drink from virgin arteries Glowing youth slows to dulled age And liver spotted atrophy Degraded and decrepit Salad days grind to senility But in my dream of Dorian Gray I staple blossom onto trees Carve my image deep in rock And drink from virgin arteries

Oily hands wag a finger In a hypochrist tirade Greasy palms rubbed in delight As bombs light an Arabian night Diamonds are Fuhrer’s best friend They sparkle in his earrings Crocodile tears join to flood Gallons of spilled African blood Cloaked by the blood spattered banner Stamping feet in Union Jack-boots Goose-step bravely on every face War is peace with brutal mace Poisonous seeds of bad apples Cannot be allowed to pollute So sure is peachy to torture and shoot Rebels for United Fruit Cloaked by the blood spattered banner Stamping feet in Union Jack-boots Goose-step bravely on every face War is peace with brutal mace Globetrotting giants rape and pillage Smash and grab in each village Sugary fascists are still sour Some of the image but all of the power On loyalty the victims choke As politicians rot the vote Finger-length maggots chew on remains And the world is a rotisserie of pain

Grey town Grey city Grey lives Not pretty Grey work Grey school Grey church Cesspool Wovoka says he had a dream We must all dance on grass of green Then one day a new dawn will come Bringing multicoloured fun Grey homes Grey clothes Grey hairs Scummy droves Grey matter Grey street Grey area Under concrete Wovoka says he had a dream We must all dance on grass of green Then one day a new dawn will come Bringing multicoloured fun

In motionless night Where Diana scans The lay of the land From her splendid height A spectre stalks The corridors Of noble maws And patriot hawks Stirring slumber The martyr leaps As the unctuous sleeps Through pounding thunder His body stiffens And as he shrieks His bloodied cheeks Become so ashen

Hazy lazy faintly shady Weary from another day Crumpled suits and tired eyes Homewards to that other life Daisy off out to the bingo Best bonnet and floral dress Bus pass grasped and at the ready Meeting Mabel weekly treat Crazy Dave out on the pull Looking to forget himself Party girl Trish spent hours in her lair Caking on make-up and braiding her hair But they all died that night With ‘if only’ on their lips Astounded by the lightening flash And when the sky enveloped them They slept beneath a blanket of ash

about

‘Rotisserie Of Pain’ is the first demo release by Torture Garden. It was completed in the summer of 2007, and made available as a free download. CD copies were made available in August 2009, and can be purchased from www.lulu.com/content/compact-disc/rotisserie-of-pain/7565646.

All tracks were written and performed entirely by brothers Adam and Matt Ford. The tracks were recorded at home and in the studio at the Cornerstone campus of Liverpool Hope University in North West England.

The band originally planned to include their version of Black Sabbath’s ‘Children Of The Grave’, but were unable to secure a license to release the track by the song’s publishers.

The cover art features the head of a dead sheep being feasted upon by flies. The photograph was taken by Matt after he discovered the sheep whilst walking in the Lake District. The physical CD version of the release features an ironic dedication on its back cover. It reads: “To the priests, the soldiers, the judges, to those people who educate, instruct and govern men, we dedicate these hymns of Murder and Blood.” This is almost identical to the dedication in Octave Mirbeau’s 1899 novel ‘The Torture Garden (Le Jardin des supplices)’, from which the band took its name.
